TL;DR

  • Kansas City Chiefs now face a state of panic at 6-6 after Thanksgiving loss to Dallas Cowboys.
  • The Chiefs must avoid mistakes to secure playoff victories, an unfamiliar situation for them.
  • With a 6-6 record, Kansas City's playoff hopes diminish if Bills, Texans, or Jaguars win.
  • The Chiefs acknowledge they were their own biggest obstacle versus Dallas, which cannot repeat.

The Kansas City Chiefs were aware before their Thanksgiving matchup with the Dallas Cowboys that a sense of urgency was paramount at 6-5, but following a 31-28 defeat that pushes the Chiefs to 6-6, it's now a state of panic.

To essentially secure victories from this point forward and rely on other teams faltering significantly to make the playoffs, this is an unfamiliar situation for The Chiefs.

But that's the bed they made, now they've got to lie in it.

Moving forward, the Chiefs' mindset must be that there's absolutely no room for mistakes from this point on, correct?

Head coach Andy Reid thinks so.

"We go into every week thinking that," Reid said. "In this business, you stress to get your game plan down, practice it, and then go out and do it, so there's no days off on that. It's competition, and you're giving it your all, and I wouldn't expect anything less from the guys now."

Cowboys hand Chiefs a significant playoff deficit following their defeat

With a 6-6 record and trailing the Buffalo Bills, Houston Texans, and Jacksonville Jaguars, Kansas City's playoff hopes will diminish even more if that group secures a win in Week 13.

The Chiefs recognize that they were their own biggest obstacle versus Dallas, and that absolutely cannot repeat if they aim to sneak into the postseason.

Reid anticipates no less given the Chiefs' season performance, yet the situation's severity is escalating to crisis point for the AFC champions.

Their season is now officially on life support.
