Is Travis Hunter playing two ways? Inside Jaguars rookie's offensive, defensive stats in 2025 image

The 2025 NFL Draft had several interesting storylines. Could Ashton Jeanty continue his dominance at Boise State at the next level? Where would Colorado QB Shedeur Sanders be drafted? Could Travis Hunter really play both sides of the ball?

The latter was a huge talking point in the pre-draft process. Hunter made it clear that he had no interest in joining a team that didn’t value his ability to play on both sides of the ball, as he had for the Buffaloes. Many former players and analysts said it would be very difficult for him to play both sides as much as he did in college, but the wide receiver–cornerback was determined.

Hunter landed with the Jaguars, and new head coach Liam Coen stated that they intended to use Hunter on both sides of the ball. Through training camp, Hunter’s role was defined as a starting wide receiver and a backup cornerback. As the 2025 regular season began, Hunter was indeed used on both sides of the ball. He predominantly played offense but has still logged snaps on defense.

Here is more of a look at Hunter's two-way stats from four games in 2025.

Is Travis Hunter playing two ways?

Yes. Hunter played both offense and defense during his tenure at Colorado, and this versatility has continued in his professional career. The biggest difference is that while playing for the Buffaloes, he played almost every snap in the game. For the Jaguars, he largely focuses on offense but still takes some defensive snaps.
