Jaguars trade idea lands 26-year old pass catcher from AFC South rival image

The Jacksonville Jaguars have fallen off just a bit, but they can still get themselves in the playoff race.

Sometimes, all it takes is a well-timed move or two, and it's that time of year. The NFL trade deadline is Nov. 4, so if something is going to get done, it'll have to be soon.

One area the Jaguars haven't been as strong as expected is in the pass-catching department. Brian Thomas Jr. Has struggled with drops. Travis Hunter has been stretched thin in his dual roles. And Brenton Strange, the promising young tight end, is hurt.

They could solve this to some extent in the trade market, though.

ESPN's Seth Walder suggested this: The Jaguars should go get Chigoziem Okonkwo, the tight end from the Tennessee Titans.

"The one-two punch of Brian Thomas Jr. And Hunter is not hitting the way everyone -- including Jacksonville's front office -- probably imagined in the summer," Walder writes. "Another playmaker is in order for the Jaguars, and Okonkwo could be that. He would be a clear step up as a receiver from Hunter Long, with a positive YAC over expectation every season of his career, per NFL Next Gen Stats. The Titans should have zero qualms about dealing Okonkwo within the division -- especially given that he's in a contract year."

Okonkwo is available because the rebuilding Titans don't need to keep him in the final year of his contract. But that's actually good news for the Jags: The trade price for Okonkwo won't be very high.

He'd be a big target for Trevor Lawrence who can make plays in the red zone, but he's also a dynamic player after the catch, as Walder mentioned with his stat above.

Jacksonville might not be in a position to take a huge swing at the deadline, but this would be a subtle move that could potentially be a major help to their whole operation.
