The Jacksonville Jaguars took a chance at the trade deadline, and it has paid off.
They needed a wide receiver, and so they traded for Las Vegas Raiders wideout Jakobi Meyers. He's been a standout player since arriving.
Meyers' play has also raised the question of what comes next. The main reason he was available to be acquired was that he's in the last year of his contract.
The Jags may not have known when they got Meyers whether they'd want to keep him. After the way he has connected so well with Trevor Lawrence? It'd be hard not to.

In ESPN's latest power rankings (where the Jaguars rank No. 6 in the NFL), they broke down an extension candidate for each team. And with Meyers, they think a deal is coming.
"Meyers has been the Jaguars' leader in catches (27) and receiving yards (355) since the team acquired him via trade from the Raiders on Nov. 4," ESPN's Mike DiRocco writes. "He's in the last year of a three-year, $33 million contract, and the Jaguars want him back as he has become quarterback Trevor Lawrence's most trusted receiver, especially in the middle of the field. The 29-year-old had a career-high 1,027 receiving yards with Las Vegas in 2024."

Meyers will likely be paid a good chunk better than that three-year, $33 million deal he had with the Raiders.
He also must be enjoying life more than he was in Vegas. The Raiders are 2-12. The Jaguars are 10-4 and leading the AFC South.
Meyers is likely heading to the playoffs, and he can perform well there and make himself even a bit more cash.
