The Indianapolis Colts stunned the NFL on Tuesday.

That's when they pulled off a blockbuster trade for New York Jets star cornerback Sauce Gardner.

Gardner just signed an extension in the summer. No one would've thought the Jets would pivot away from him this soon.

But the Colts, who will play Sunday in Germany against the Atlanta Falcons, found the opportunity and seized it.

Why did the Colts trade for Sauce Gardner?

The Colts traded for Gardner both for present and future reasons.

In the present, they're 7-2 and had a chance to add a premier player to try and help their legitimate title hopes.

For the future, Gardner will be Indy's player for the next 5.5 seasons. His new contract extension means the Colts will get a bunch of chances to be a winning team with Sauce.

And he's good, a star who may not have even reached his prime yet. It's not often players like Gardner become available in trades.

What did the Colts trade for Sauce Gardner?

The Colts had to give up two first-round picks and WR Adonai Mitchell to get Sauce Gardner.

The picks will conceptually be later in the first round given how the Colts are currently playing.

Mitchell was thought of as a top WR prospect not long ago, but he couldn't break through with Indy and now gets a fresh start.

Is Sauce Gardner playing today in Week 10 for Colts?

Yes, Gardner is set to suit up for his Colts debut.

It'll come in Germany against the Falcons.

Gardner began the week in concussion protocol, but he cleared that by mid-week and is all set to put on Indy blue.
