The Indianapolis Colts drafted A.D. Mitchell in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft out of Texas with the expectation that he would help give the Colts a terrific trio of receivers alongside Michael Pittman and Josh Downs. However, he had a slow start as a rookie, catching just 23 passes and didn't record a touchdown.
It looked as if the former Longhorn was about to get his first touchdown in the NFL at a crucial time in Week 4. Daniel Jones launched a deep ball down the left sideline, which Mitchell caught and outraced Rams defenders to the end zone for an apparent score to put the Colts up 16-13. Unfortunately, he bobbled the ball as he was running into the end zone, and it bounced out the back of the end zone for a touchback.
It was a tough break for a young player looking to have a breakout year. He entered Week 4 with just four receptions on the year. The Colts are looking for their first 4-0 start since 2009, and to maintain a three-game lead on the Houston Texans who defeated the Tennessee Titans 26-0 to get to 1-3. Elsewhere, the Jacksonville Jaguars lead the San Francisco 49ers 17-6 at the time of writing, and could be 3-1 by the end of the week.
