We may have seen the last of Philip Rivers playing quarterback in the NFL, but he may not be completely done in the league just yet.

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, there is a belief around the league that Rivers could draw interest for a head-coaching gig this cycle.

In fact, Rapoport adds that Rivers could get at least one interview for a job, of which there are currently two, the Tennessee Titans and New York Giants. Of course, more jobs will likely open up after Week 18.

"Several sources say Rivers could end up as a head coach candidate this cycle and the current belief is that Rivers gets at least one opportunity to interview, possibly more," Rapoport wrote. "Sources say that teams have been doing research on Rivers as a candidate and making background calls."

Rapoport goes on to say that teams did homework on Rivers as a head coach last year, also, but he wasn't interested.

However, the belief now is that Rivers' recent return to the NFL may have opened the door for him to be open to a head-coaching gig.

"That happened last year, as well. Rivers previously has never been willing to engage -- not with college or NFL teams -- but his dramatic return to the NFL in December might have sparked his interest," Rapoport said.

As Rivers ponders jumping from a high school head coach to an NFL one, he has already made it clear he doesn't plan on playing quarterback again, as he told Kay Adams last week he plans on retiring again.

It feels unlikely that Rivers will end up as a head coach, but as we learned when he came out of retirement to join the Colts, never say never.
