Colts' Philip Rivers has tears in his eyes as he shares his honest feelings about return from retirement image

Philip Rivers wouldn't change a thing.

The 44-year old quarterback came out of retirement after almost five full years away from NFL action to play for the Indianapolis Colts.

The QB has played pretty well over his three games back, but the Colts have lost all three anyway.

Instead of being the Colts' savior, Rivers has been there as Indy has been officially eliminated from the playoffs.

He's grateful that he's here, though.

This is part of what Rivers told reporters on Sunday after losing to the Jaguars, speaking with tears in his eyes:

“If I go back and say, ‘Now you know everything that’s gonna happen, what would you do?’ I’d do it all again… I got 3 bonus games that I never saw coming and I couldn’t be more grateful.”

Rivers was a semifinalist for the Hall of Fame when he returned. That actually reset his clock for possible Hall of Fame eligibility.

It seems likely Rivers will sit in Week 18 to allow sixth-round rookie Riley Leonard to get a start, but that hasn't been officially decided yet.

For now, football fans can just appreciate what Rivers did. He has been coaching high school football. His last NFL game had been Jan. 9, 2021.

And he came back and gave the Colts a real chance. It was really cool to watch, even if it didn't quite work out.
