Colts GM sends clear message about Daniel Jones' future in Indianapolis image

Quarterback Daniel Jones’ future with the Indianapolis Colts will be a main topic of conversation this offseason.

Jones was having a very solid season for the Colts before suffering a torn Achilles in Week 14. Given that he was on the last year of his contract, the injury raised some serious questions regarding the future of the 28-year-old QB in Indianapolis.

Did the Colts still think he could be their guy moving forward? Would they look to go in a different direction?

It sounds like the Colts plan to bring back Daniel Jones

Colts general manager Chris Ballard answered some of those questions at his second-ending news conference, and his comments sure made it sound like the teams plans to bring Jones back.

"I'm looking at him both near and long [term]," Ballard said of Jones. "When you're chasing the quarterback all the time, it makes it very hard. Your margin for error really shrinks down. And I feel very good about Daniel Jones and where he's at, where he's going. Yes, he's got the Achilles. But I think Daniel Jones has got a really bright future here in Indianapolis."

Even with the Achilles injury, Jones will likely have other suitors in free agency given the lack of quarterback depth in the class. However, he has recently indicated that he would like to remain in Indianapolis.

"I've enjoyed being here, working with the coaching staff here, the players," Jones said. "I think it's a great organization and I've enjoyed being here. Obviously there's a business side to it and understand that, but I've really enjoyed being here around these people."

Jones also doesn't think that the injury will impact his availability for next season, no matter where he plays.

"But I expect to be ready to go by training camp," Jones said. "We'll attack the process and make sure I'm ready to go."

Jones is headed for unrestricted free agency in March, but he could potentially come to an agreement on a new deal with the Colts before then.
