Colts' post-Andrew Luck retirement curse continues with Daniel Jones' season-ending injury image

Even when the Indianapolis Colts finally got the quarterback position right, it went wrong.

That's the story of this franchise since Andrew Luck shockingly announced his retirement. The latest insult came in the form of Daniel Jones' season-ending torn Achilles injury, but it's just the latest chapter in a brutal story.

No one saw it coming on August 24, 2019, when Luck went into a postgame preseason press conference and announced his retirement from the NFL.

The former No. 1 overall pick was a star quarterback and just 29 years old. His decision was unprecedented.

Luck had played through immense pain for years, though, and he had to make a change.

Six years later, Luck spoke to The Athletic about his decision, and he summed up his retirement choice in five simple words:

"I fell out of love."

The Colts haven't figured out quarterback since Luck left.

Since Luck, the Colts have started Jacoby Brissett, Brian Hoyer, Philip Rivers, Carson Wentz, Matt Ryan, Sam Ehlinger, Nick Foles, Gardner Minshew, Anthony Richardson, Joe Flacco and Daniel Jones at QB. Richardson is the only one to have made starts in multiple seasons, and Riley Leonard looks likely to be the next name added to that list.

Luck is now the general manager of the Stanford football program, trying to bring his alma mater forward into this new, modern world of college football in which an academically focused program that plays in a conference based on the opposite coast has its work cut out for it.

The Colts have just as big a challenge. They have to win football games in a year that they would've still expected to have Luck leading the way as the face of their franchise.

But his departure is more than six years ago now. It doesn't seem like it'll ever get easier to move on from Luck.
