The Houston Texans haven't had the services of running back Joe Mixon and wide receiver Tank Dell at all this season.
Mixon has been on the non-football injury list since the offseason as deals with a mysterious foot injury.
Meanwhile, Dell suffered a dislocated knee last season that saw him tear multiple ligaments, including his ACL.
Here's what we know about both players' chances of suiting up this season.
Will Joe Mixon play this season?
The expectation is Mixon will not suit up this season.
The news comes from NFL Network's Ian Rapoport:
"Texans RB Joe Mixon is not expected to play this season as he deals with a foot injury from the offseason," Rapoport reported. "Mixon likely remains on the Physically Unable to Perform list through the season."
But Mixon has pushed back on that report, hinting that nothing has been made final about his status for this season.
"Now, I get everyone’s looking for splash news and clickbait," Mixon said after the report from Rapoport. "But I’m just curious, Ian how do you know more about me than me?"
While Mixon's response is all well and good, there has been nothing to suggest that Mixon is even close to returning. As a result, we would be surprised to see him on the field in 2025.
Will Tank Dell play this season?
While the Texans haven't officially closed the door on Dell playing this season, the expectation is that he won't suit up.
Dell's knee injury was about as bad as can be and can have a recovery time of about a year or more. It will be one year since his injury in Week 16.
Even if Dell gets designated to return in the next few weeks, it will take him multiple more weeks to get ready to play after having missed so much time.
Knowing all that, we don't expect to see Dell play in 2025.
