The Joe Mixon mystery stretches into another week of the 2025 NFL season.
The Houston Texans running back was placed on the non-football injury list during the offseason because of a foot injury, the details of which have yet to be revealed.
Then, as the Texans cut their roster down to 53 players, Mixon remained on the list, which meant he would miss the first four games of the season, at least.
However, Mixon's absence has extended far beyond that and there are doubts he will be able to play at all this season, especially after comments made by Texans general manager Nick Caserio in August.
Caserio has since provided another update on Mixon's status. Here's what we know.
Will Joe Mixon play in 2025?
The last update we received from Caserio came on Oct. 7, when he revealed that Mixon was making progress. Caserio also stated the team would know more on Mixon's status in three to four weeks from that date.
"He's making progress, so we won't put a particular timetable on it, so I think over the next few three or four weeks, we'll probably get a little more information here, kind of see how he's progressing," Caserio stated.
"Once we kind of get to that period, probably have a better sense of which way it's going to go for the duration of the year," Caserio added.
While that gives hope for Mixon to play in 2025, Aaron Wilson of Click2Houston is hearing that the veteran's situation is "tough, complicated" and there is no guarantee Mixon plays at all this season.
We are now over one month since Caserio gave the timeline for an update and there is no new news to report as we prepare to turn the page to Week 11, which is yet another bad sign for Mixon's rest-of-season status.
If we had to guess, we'd say Mixon doesn't play at all in 2025.
