Texans announce C.J. Stroud injury decision for Week 10 image

In a key divisional game in Week 10, the Houston Texans will be without their quarterback.

Head coach DeMeco Ryans announced Wednesday that C.J. Stroud will miss the game.

Stroud is in concussion protocol.

The 3-5 Texans will start backup Davis Mills against the 5-3 Jacksonville Jaguars.

Stroud sustained a concussion in Week 9 against the Denver Broncos.

During the second quarter, Stroud took off on a scramble, and as he slid toward the ground, he was hit hard, causing his head to snap back into the turf.

Stroud exited the game and didn't return as he was placed into concussion protocol.

The message changed over the past couple days.

"We'll see how the week goes and how he progresses throughout the week," Texans coach DeMeco Ryans told reporters on Monday.

By Wednesday, though, Stroud was out.

Without Stroud, the Texans' chances of edging the Jags have decreased significantly.

Mills struggled mightily in the second half against Denver. The Texans lost that game, 18-15, only getting points on five field goals and not finding the end zone once.

Houston will have to hope Mills is up to the task and can keep the seat warm, and that Stroud's absence isn't too long, because otherwise, the season could get away from the Texans in a hurry.
