The Houston Texans are taking the field for their Week 4 game against the Tennessee Titans without running back Joe Mixon once again.
Mixon was dealing with a foot injury during the offseason and landed on the non-football injury list to begin the 2025 campaign, which knocks him out for the first four contests of the season, at least.
As Mixon enters his fourth week on the list, many are wondering if he's going to play at all this season. That remains to be seen, but we did get a recent update on when we can expect more information on his status.
Here's the latest on Mixon.
Is Joe Mixon going to play this season?
Back in August, Texans general manager Nick Caserio would not commit to Mixon taking the field in 2025.
"We'll see. We'll take it one day at a time," Caserio said. "We'll evaluate those players after four weeks and see where they are in their progression and then make a determination."
In what was the first semblance of an update since August, The Athletic's Dianna Russini reported that we should get some clarity on Mixon in mid-October.
"Joe Mixon remains on the non-football injury list with a foot/ankle issue, but there should be clarity by mid-October," Russini reported on Saturday.
In Mixon's absence, the Texans have turned to veteran running back Nick Chubb, who has tallied 141 rushing yards at 4.1 yards per carry.
The offensive line has been a major cause of Chubb's inability to find much room to run, and the group upfront has also struggled in pass protection, which is nothing news.
If you're looking for a solid fantasy stash, consider Texans rookie running back Woody Marks, who is the clear RB2 in Houston.
Marks could work himself into a bigger role as the season progresses, and we know about Chubb's extensive injury history.
