The Kansas City Chiefs are reportedly adding to their backfield.

According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, the Chiefs are signing former Houston Texans fourth-round pick and running back, Dameon Pierce.

Pierce will be added to the practice squad initially, Schultz adds.

"Sources: The Chiefs are signing former Texans RB Dameon Pierce. Pierce had over 1,100 yards as a rookie and also has experience as a returner. The 25-year old will start on the practice squad," Schultz wrote.

Pierce was waived by the Texans last week and ultimately cleared waivers, which allowed him to sign with any team.

Pierce showed a ton of promise during his rookie campaign in 2022, when he tallied 939 rushing yards, 165 receiving yards and five total touchdowns.

However, things went downhill from there.

Pierce posted just 416 rushing yards in 2023 and then became even less involved in the offense in 2024, finishing with 293 yards.

In 2025, Pierce became completely phased out of the offense, as he has mostly been a healthy scratch. In the four games he's played in this season, Pierce has just 10 carries and one target and has appeared for just 23 snaps on offense.

Now, Pierce will hope to revive his career with the Chiefs, although he's going to have a tough time seeing the field with Kansas City having a pretty crowded situation in the backfield.

His best bet might be contributing as a returner. Pierce has 20 career kick returns and has scored one touchdown in those attempts.
