A lot of modern sports is about style points.
Romeo Doubs, the Green Bay Packers' talented wide receiver, is going for safety points.
Doubs has drawn a lot of attention this season for what he's wearing on his head. It looks like a jumbo helmet.
But it's not actually an extra large helmet. It's a cover over the top of a regular helmet.
Here's how it all works:
Why is Romeo Doubs' helmet different?
Romeo Doubs' helmet looks different because he is wearing a Guardian Cap.
What is a Guardian Cap?
A Guardian Cap is a soft, protective, shell covering that goes over the regulation NFL helmet.
It is designed to help prevent head injuries.
Guardian Caps were first allowed to be worn on NFL practice fields in 2020.
The first time players could wear Guardian Caps in games was 2024.

Why does Romeo Doubs wear a Guardian Cap?
Doubs began wearing a Guardian Cap late in the 2024 season. He missed two weeks with a concussion that he sustained against the San Francisco 49ers.
In his first game with the Guardian Cap, he had two receiving touchdowns.
Doubs has continued to wear the helmet covering for the entire 2025 season.

Do any other Packers wear a Guardian Cap?
One other Packers WR, rookie Savion Williams, also wears a Guardian Cap.
He too has a history with concussions and is seeking to prevent more.
Doubs and Williams are two of about a dozen NFL players to have consistently worn the Guardian Caps this season, although each week, it seems there's a new partaker in the safety trend.
