The Pittsburgh Steelers are still searching for a veteran quarterback ahead of the upcoming season. While speculation continues about who they might sign, the situation is only becoming more uncertain as time goes on. The Steelers recently acquired DK Metcalf but have yet to pair him with a proven quarterback—and time appears to be running out.

One name frequently linked to Pittsburgh is NFL legend Aaron Rodgers. However, Rodgers seems to be taking his time with the decision. At some point, the Steelers may have to move on if he continues to delay putting pen to paper. Rodgers is known to have a good relationship with head coach Mike Tomlin.

“I know that (Rodgers) has stayed in relatively constant contact with Mike Tomlin,” James Palmer said. “So, I do believe there’s enough things pointing that Aaron Rodgers would be the quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers.”

A decision from Rodgers could be approaching as the NFL schedule is set to be released Wednesday night.

“If you’re Rodgers, don’t you just at this point wait until after the schedule is out?” Mike Florio said. “Because it’s not like the Steelers are gonna get fewer primetime games than what they’d otherwise get.”

According to NFL Nerd, the Steelers are expected to open the season on the road against the New York Jets. That matchup strongly hints at Rodgers’ likely destination.

“The biggest question is who will be playing quarterback for Pittsburgh. Former Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers has been expected to sign with the Steelers for months but it has not happened. Rodgers’ presence would add intrigue to the matchup,” Brian Costello wrote.

Week 1 is shaping up to include several marquee matchups, such as Packers vs. Lions and Falcons vs. Buccaneers. While there’s no formal rivalry between the Steelers and Jets, Rodgers still carries tension with the team that made it clear they were ready to move on from him.
