Embattled Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur may have no bigger supporter than his former quarterback, Aaron Rodgers.

LaFleur is considered by many to be on the hot seat and there are no shortage of Packers fans who want to see him get the boot.

LaFleur is entering the final year of his contract, and despite the fact that many Green Bay fans want him gone, the expectation is the two sides will work on an extension, which would keep LaFleur with the Packers for the long haul.

"Packers now are expected to try to work out a deal in the coming days to keep head coach Matt LaFleur in Green Bay, per sources," ESPN's Adam Schefter reported.

Following the Pittsburgh Steelers' playoff loss to the Houston Texans on Monday night, Rodgers was asked about his thoughts on the idea that his current head coach, Mike Tomlin, might be on the hot seat.

In his lengthy response, Rodgers not only defended Tomlin, but his former head coach LaFleur, also, according to ESPN's Brooke Pryor.

"When I first got in the league, there wouldn't be conversation about whether those guys were on the hot seat," Rodgers said of Tomlin's and LaFleur's future. "But the way that the league is covered now and the way that there's snap decisions and the validity given to the Twitter experts and all the experts on TV now who make it seem like they know what the hell they're talking about, to me that's an absolute joke.

"And for either those two guys to be on the hot seat is really apropos of where we're at as a society and a league, because obviously Matt's done a lot of great things in Green Bay, and we had a lot of success."

While Rodgers' sentiments about both head coaches are understandable given how respected they are around the league, there comes a point in every head coach's tenure where it's just time to make a change, no matter how good they are.

For the Steelers and Packers, we're no doubt at that point.

Despite his Super Bowl ring and streak of.500-or-better seasons, Tomlin hasn't won a playoff game since 2016 and Pittsburgh has been largely stuck in neutral under him for about a decade.

As for LaFleur and the Packers, things haven't quite been the same since Rodgers left. After posting three 13-win seasons with Rodgers as his quarterback, LaFleur's record since Rodgers' departure in 2023 is an uninspiring 29-21-1, and Green Bay hasn't won a playoff game since the 2023 season.

While both head coaches are expected to be back, barring both wanting to leave their respective positions, we think it would be a mistake for the Steelers and Packers to bring Tomlin and LaFleur back.
