Who is the Packers' backup quarterback? Green Bay's 2026 QB depth chart behind Jordan Love image

After learning from Aaron Rodgers, Jordan Love has certainly exceeded expectations. This season marked Love's third consecutive season passing for over 3,000 yards and at least 20 touchdowns.

Back in 2023, Love was borderline an MVP candidate, throwing for 4,159 yards and 32 passing touchdowns. On top of the statistical success, there have been some postseason wins and appearances as well.

With the Packers in the playoffs for the third straight year in 2026, it's important to credit Love with some of this. However, he is currently working his way back from a concussion he suffered in Week 16 against the Chicago Bears.

That said, Matt LaFleur confirmed that Love will start in their wild-card game against the Bears, but who will be the backup if things go south again?

Here's everything to know about the Packers' quarterback depth chart ahead of the 2025-26 playoffs.

Who is the Packers' backup quarterback?

Love's backup is the former Tennessee Titan Malik Willis.

Willis was taken with the 86th pick in the 2022 NFL Draft by the Titans. The 6'1" quarterback out of Liberty was a promising prospect with his cannon of an arm and dual-threat ability.

However, to many's surprise, he fell considerably on the draft board. When things did not work out in Tennessee, he was shipped to Green Bay, where he has primarily been a backup.

Although Love has suffered countless injuries over the past two seasons, Willis has seen plenty of on-field action. Such as this season, when Love went down with the concussion, Willis came in against Chicago in Week 16 and played quite well, all things considered.

However, in Week 17 against the Baltimore Ravens, Willis truly proved himself. He completed 85.7 percent of his passes for 288 yards and a touchdown.

Many believe that this game alone earned him a starting spot for another team next season. With this, the Packers have to feel great about having borderline two starting quarterbacks on their roster in case of an emergency.

2. Malik Willis
3.Desmond Ridder

The Packers have three quarterbacks on their active roster heading into the postseason.

Willis would fill in for Love if he were to get injured; however, Willis himself is dealing with a right shoulder and hamstring issue as we approach the wild-card.

Therefore, if Willis is unable to go, then it would be the former Cincinnati Bearcat Desmond Ridder who would be thrown into the action.

Ridder was drafted by the Atlanta Falcons in the 2022 NFL Draft and played there for just two seasons, totaling 19 games. He then went to the Las Vegas Raiders for one season before ending up in Green Bay as the third-string quarterback.
