The Packers made the decision to draft Texas wide receiver Matthew Golden with their first-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. So far, that move appears to be paying off. Golden is already turning heads in camp, and his teammates are quickly realizing the kind of player—and person—he is.
“Oh, man. Kid's a stud," Romeo Doubs said. "Doesn't say much, but he just comes in and works. He's been real consistent in that area...kid is playing fast right now, so I'm excited to see it.”
Golden has also begun building a strong connection with Packers fans, saying he often gets recognized when he's out in the community.
“Starting to realize Green Bay not too big, so a lot of people gonna recognize me. But it’s a blessing just to be able to be around people that care about you … for me it’s just being able to show my face and show that I love being here,” Golden said.
Golden’s upside is so high that Heavy.com’s Jordan J. Wilson predicted he could be a 1,000-yard receiver in his rookie season. If his early progress continues, Golden might prove to be a major offensive asset right away.
In a recent interview, Golden shared what’s driving the team this season—something that should excite Packers fans.

“Definitely want to go get that [Lombardi] trophy, man,” Golden told KPRC’s Aaron Wilson. “That’s the question mark we got in our team room is just filling in that blank. That’s the last thing we need in that team room and, for us, that’s all we talk about at practice is getting that trophy.”
Golden hasn’t even played a snap yet, but he’s already becoming a respected presence in the locker room. His focus is clearly on the biggest goal of all: the Lombardi Trophy. With Jordan Love and Matthew Golden leading the charge, this Packers offense could become one of the most exciting in the league.
