TL;DR

  • Josh Jacobs injured his knee in Week 11 and did not practice Wednesday.
  • Jacobs returned to practice Thursday, stating his swelling is subsiding and he wants to play.
  • Worst-case scenario for Jacobs is missing one game, returning for Thanksgiving in Detroit.
  • Emmanuel Wilson and Chris Brooks would likely share the backfield if Jacobs is sidelined.

The Green Bay Packers are in danger of not having running back Josh Jacobs for the Week 12 game against the Minnesota Vikings.

Jacobs suffered a knee injury in the Week 11 win over the New York Giants that led to his early exit from the contest. On Wednesday, Jacobs did not practice, and before that head coach Matt LaFleur labeled him as "day to day."

Jacobs spoke on his injury Thursday, when he returned to practice. He said the injury occurred on the second play of the game on Sunday and he removed himself from the contest in the second quarter because he was hurting the team.

The experienced running back offered no confirmation about playing in Week 12, though he did mention that his knee's swelling is subsiding and he's focused on regaining his range of motion. He restated that his status is genuinely day to day and his desire is to compete.

"Josh Jacobs says 60% of his knee swelling is gone. Now about getting range of motion back," The Athletic's Matt Schneidman reported. "Said he’s truly day-to-day and wants to play Sunday. Got hurt on second play of game and left in second quarter when he felt he was hurting the team."

Jacobs added that if he does sit out in Week 12, he will definitely be back in Week 13.

"Josh Jacobs says worst-case scenario is he misses one game. He’s still trying to play Sunday against the Vikings. If he doesn’t, he was adamant he’s playing Thanksgiving in Detroit," Schneidman relayed.

Jacobs has never missed a game since coming to Green Bay, so this would be his first if he sits out.

Should Jacobs be sidelined, Emmanuel Wilson is expected to lead the backfield, with Chris Brooks probably providing relief.
