Why Dan Campbell is calling offensive plays for the Lions

Dan Campbell has taken over.

The Detroit Lions' head coach is now the offensive play caller.

He's done that in the past, but not for a while. In Week 10, though, Campbell took over the duties from offensive coordinator John Morton.

It was a success, as the Lions had a huge day with 44 points.

Campbell is keeping the playsheet for Week 11 on Sunday Night Football against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Why is Dan Campbell calling offensive plays for the Lions?

Dan Campbell felt the Lions needed to shake things up.

After the Week 10 win in which Campbell called plays, he explained.

"It was just, let's try something a little different," Campbell said.

The Lions felt good about Ben Johnson as offensive coordinator the last few years, but he's the Chicago Bears' head coach now.

So Campbell has taken matters into his own hands, the old mantra of if you want something done right, do it yourself.

So far, so good in Detroit.
