Two of the Detroit Lions' biggest concerns heading into the Week 1 game against the Green Bay Packers reared their ugly heads in the disappointing 27-13 loss.
Those two concerns, of course, were the offensive line, which has three new starters, and the pass-rush, which has Aidan Hutchinson and a bunch of question marks.
The Lions' new-look offensive line was dominated in the trenches. Quarterback Jared Goff was sacked four times and the rushing attack averaged a pathetic 2.1 yards per carry.
According to Next Gen Stats (H/T Packernet Podcast), Lions ball carriers were hit behind the line of scrimmage by a Packers defender on 16 of their 22 carries in the game (72.7%).
Adding to that, Green Bay gave up -12 rushing yards before contact and -0.6 yards before contact before per carry, the second-worst mark in the Dan Campbell era.
Jahmyr Gibbs finished with just 19 yards on nine carries, while David Montgomery posted 25 yards on 11 carries.
According to Tim Twentyman of DetroitLions.com, three offensive linemen gave up sacks in the contest, including two of the new starters in rookie Tate Ratledge and sophomore Christian Mahogany. Taylor Decker was also responsible for one.
When it comes to the pass-rush, the Lions were one of the three teams in the entire league to not tally a sack in Week 1, along with the Carolina Panthers and Philadelphia Eagles.
Detroit mustered up just six pressures, tied for the second-fewest in the league. Of those pressures, Hutchinson had three of them. Each one of the other three starters upfront had one apiece.
The Lions never showed much concern about either group during the offseason and through training camp and the preseason. So far, it looks like their confidence was misplaced.
