Due to his infectious personality, it doesn't take long for Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell to rub off on his players.
You need not look further for evidence of that than Lions 2025 NFL draft pick and edge rusher, Ahmed Hassanein.
After going through rookie minicamp recently, Hassanein took to Instagram with a quote from his new head coach, who has clearly already left his mark on the youngster.
“There is no light at the end of the tunnel. There is no light. There’s a song Metallica has, ‘No Leaf Clover,’ and it says man, when it comes to the soothing light at the end of your tunnel, it’s just a freight train coming your way," Hassanein wrote. "If you see an expletive light, it’s just a freight train. Just put your HEAD DOWN and go to WORK. It’s about to be fun.”
Great quote, and shutout to Hassanein for censoring it for us.
Drafted in the sixth round, Hassanein could have a bigger than expected role in his first season given the Lions' failure to make an adequate addition along the edge following the release of Za'Darius Smith.
So far, the reviews have been positive of Hassanein, who looks to be both a great person and a hard worker.
"Absolute joy to be around. He's never had a bad day, and he doesn't know what 'slow down' means," Lions defensive coordinator Kelvin Sheppard said of Hassanein.
Hassanein put himself on the draft map thanks to an impressive final two years at Boise State, where he tallied 22 sacks, including 12.5 in 2023 and 9.5 in 2024.
There are just some picks general manager Brad Holmes makes that feel like they're going to be a steal. Hassanein qualifies as one of them.
