The New York Giants have chosen to fire head coach Brian Daboll, making the news official on Monday following yet another late-game collapse by the team.

The latest failure came in Chicago, where the Giants had a 17-7 lead late in the game. Quarterback Jaxson Dart had to leave the game with a concussion and it was all downhill for the Giants from there. It seemed that Daboll may have been on the hot seat from the moment the season started, but the play of Dart looked like it was going to have a chance to save him. But in the end, the argument that Daboll is driving his rookie quarterback into the ground with all of the designed run plays that are being called is hard to argue against.

As a result, the Giants are searching for a new head coach. Offensive coordinator Mike Kafka will take over on an interim basis for the remainder of this season, but the team will want to consider a plethora of candidates.

Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin will have his name brought up, as he was the college coach for Dart and has been a coach in the NFL before and a return to the pros has long been rumored. NFL insider Ian Rapoport named three candidates to "keep an eye on" during the search. Those would be Kansas City Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo, former Giants linebacker and Las Vegas Raiders head coach Antonio Pierce and current Indianapolis Colts defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo.

But the Denver Broncos may have a candidate on their current sideline and it's a guy who is still just a position coach. Quarterbacks coach Davis Webb is considered one of the better young minds in the sport and though jumping straight to a head coach position from a position coach spot would be unlikely, it's not impossible.

Rapoport discussed Spagnuolo and Pierce having ties to the Giants organization, but Webb does too. A third-round pick of the team in 2017, Webb had two stints with the Giants as a backup quarterback. As soon as his playing career ended following the 2022 season, Sean Payton brought him onto the Denver staff as his ability as a coach had been recognized for quite some time.

It seems that Webb is destined to land a head coaching gig at some point, should that be his goal. Is it possible the Giants look to fast-track him to bring his impressive young mind as a former quarterback to work with Dart, who is clearly the future of the franchise?
