The Denver Broncos begin their playoff path Saturday as the AFC's No. 1 seed.

They're hosting the Buffalo Bills in the Divisional Round after a first-round bye that came with that top seed.

There are a lot of things people notice about the Broncos. There's talented QB Bo Nix. There's shutdown cornerback Patrick Surtain II. There's superstar pass rusher Nik Bonitto.

There's also a number on their helmets, on the front, that captures attention, too.

Why do Broncos have 5280 on their helmets?

That 5280 represents Denver.

Denver is the "mile-high city," because it's located a mile in elevation above sea level.

A mile is also 5,280 feet.

Thus, the 5,280 on the helmets. It's kind of like wearing an area code.

The Denver Nuggets have worn the number on their jerseys in the past, too.

Not every uniform combination the Broncos wear includes the number, but their navy blue helmets that they'll be wearing against the Bills on Saturday do.

The number catches the eye in part because other teams don't usually have anything in that front-facing portion of their helmet.

But for the Broncos, they have four digits that allow them to further represent their city.
