What exactly are the Denver Broncos doing at wide receiver?

Broncos Country trusts and believes in Sean Payton, so there will likely be no one pressing him or questioning his methods, but the team made some moves at the wide receiver position on Tuesday or Wednesday (or lack of moves) that have to have some fans wondering.

The Broncos announced their initial 53-man roster ahead of the 2025 NFL season and it contains just five wide receivers. That may not have come as a surprise to many, but after trading away Devaughn Vele, it seemed to open the door for one of the young undrafted players on the roster, specifically Courtney Jackson

Jackson was outstanding during the summer for the Broncos, but it was determined that the team needs four tight ends, five safeties and seven defensive linemen more than a sixth wide receiver. That may be a fair assessment, but the Broncos needed to at least get Jackson back on the practice squad. That's where they struck out again.

Jackson instead signed with the practice squad of the Seattle Seahawks

That's a tough blow, but the Broncos had some other young wide receivers show out in camp this summer, namely Joaquin Davis and Kyrese Rowan. You could potentially throw Jerjuan Newton into that conversation as well. But wait, NONE of them are on the practice squad either?

The Broncos did sign two wide receivers to the practice squad, Michael Bandy and A.T. Perry. Bandy is a fun little player, but he's bounced around practice squads for a reason. Perry didn't even play this summer due to injury. So why them and not the players with all of the upside we saw this summer?

Could it be that these players just don't want to play in Denver anymore? Maybe they felt disrespected or just unwanted. Perhaps they turned the Broncos down?

It's certainly a possibility, one that most fans will just shrug their shoulders to since these players were all undrafted, but the Broncos better hope they don't deal with multiple injuries at the position this year or they're going to be counting on guys like Bandy or Perry. They have a combined 22 catches in their careers.

This may seem like a minor complaint, but it's a startling result for a team that seemed to have endless depth at the position, so much depth that Vele was deemed expendable, just a few days ago.
