TL;DR

  • Denver Broncos moved up to No. 2 in NFL power rankings during their bye week.
  • An elite defense and late-game heroics from Bo Nix fuel the Broncos' success.
  • Broncos could reach No. 1 if Rams lose and they defeat Commanders.
  • Denver faces Washington Commanders on Sunday Night Football in Week 13.

The Denver Broncos are pushing toward the top of the mountain known as the NFL power rankings. This week, they gained another spot without even having to play a game.

While the Broncos were resting up during their bye week, last week's No. 1 team, the Philadelphia Eagles, gave up a 21-point lead in a loss to the Dallas Cowboys. That allowed some teams to move up, with the Broncos going from No. 3 to No. 2, behind only the Los Angeles Rams, in the most recent rankings put out by Vinnie Iyer of AllSportsPeople

"The Broncos have been ripping through the league with an elite defense giving them a high floor every week and Bo Nix ready to come through in the fourth quarter to ensure some winning finishes. They need to get a little more consistent on offense to be true Super Bowl contenders", wrote Iyer.

Iyer maintains his preference for The Broncos in his rankings above the New England Patriots. Despite the Patriots holding the AFC's top seed with 10 wins compared to the Broncos' nine, Iyer notes that New England hasn't yet taken its bye week.

Denver's team is scheduled to face the Washington Commanders during Week 13, with the game set for Sunday Night Football. This matchup offers a prime opportunity for viewers nationwide to witness the Broncos' defensive prowess this season, serving as an excellent conclusion to the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.

Currently, the Rams appear to be the top team in the NFC, but they'll be playing away against the Carolina Panthers. Should the Rams unexpectedly lose that matchup and the Broncos manage to defeat a Commanders squad that likely won't have Jayden Daniels in their roster, the Broncos might secure the top position in the upcoming rankings.
