The Denver Broncos rushed for only 59 yards on 21 carries against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday and though they won the game, it seems clear that the loss of J.K. Dobbins is going to be an issue.
Broncos running backs gained just 49 yards on 17 carries, a 2.8-yard average in the game, and that is just not going to get it done. The Chiefs do have a top 10 defense against the run, but the Broncos are going to need to have a running game going into the playoffs, as a one-dimensional offense isn't going to scare anyone.
The Broncos have the trio of RJ Harvey, Jaleel McLaughlin and Tyler Badie. Harvey has had some big spots during his rookie season, but most all of them have come through the passing game. McLaughlin and Badie are essentially the same player and neither of them is the guy that you want to give the ball to on third-and-short when you have to have it.
Harvey can be that guy, but the Broncos need more depth at the position. There are still some players who are free agents that the Broncos should look into, but the team has also signed three players from the practice squads of other teams this season.
Players Broncos have signed off practice squads in 2025
| Player | Position | Team |
| J.T. Gray | Safety | Baltimore |
| Lil'Jordan Humphrey | WR | N.Y. Giants |
| Geron Christian | OL | Dallas |
Why not a fourth?
The Chiefs have Carson Steele on their practice squad. It wouldn't be a flashy signing, but it could be an interesting addition for a team needing a grinder in short-yardage situations.
Steele joined the Chiefs as an undrafted free agent out of UCLA last season. He made the 53-man roster and played in all 17 games, even making three starts. He rushed for 183 yards on 56 carries and caught seven passes for 26 yards. Again, he's not going to post huge numbers, but he's a physical runner who invites contact.
This was the definition of an "angry run".

Steele could be an interesting addition, one who could also chip in on special teams, as a No. 4 running back for the Broncos, at least until Dobbins could potentially return.
