Denver Broncos get seemingly good news about availability of Evan Engram for Week 2 image

The Denver Broncos were able to get an ugly victory over the Tennessee Titans this past Sunday in a game in which Bo Nix struggled and the defense had to make some plays to fend off the upset bid. But perhaps no player on the Broncos' roster had a worse day than Evan Engram.

In his Denver debut, Engram caught only three passes for 21 yards before leaving the game with a calf injury. That injury, at least at first, appeared to be fairly serious. Now, that injury is being diagnosed as a calf bruise and he was able to participate in Wednesday's practice in a limited fashion.

It was feared that it was a calf strain that could keep Engram out multiple weeks, but this is clearly much better news. Engram could have a chance to suit up this Sunday when the Broncos face the Indianapolis Colts.

The team could choose to be cautious with getting Engram back on the field to ensure that his recovery goes smoothly and a new setback doesn't occur, but tight end is a thin position with Nate Adkins also dealing with an injury. Without Engram, the Broncos would have only Adam Trautman and Lucas Krull as healthy tight ends on the roster. Seventh-round pick Caleb Lohner is on the practice squad along with Patrick Murtagh. The team would likely elevate one of them if Engram is unable to play.

The team will monitor his status and see if he is able to log a full practice on Thursday and/or Friday. That will likely determine if or how much he'll be able to play. However, a bruised calf is certainly better than a strained calf and there should be a big difference in recovery time
