Broncos' defensive lineman lands on injured reserve, 3 players elevated from practice squad image

When Denver Broncos defensive lineman Malcolm Roach popped up on the injury report on Thursday, his odds of playing in the season opener went down dramatically. Now, he won't appear in at least the first four games as the Broncos have placed him on short-term injured reserve

The Broncos curiously kept seven defensive linemen on the 53-man roster, but that move could pay off now as the trio of Jordan Jackson, Eyioma Uwazurike and Sai'vion Jones could each be in store for more action.

To replace Roach on the 53-man roster, the Broncos promoted quarterback Sam Ehlinger to the active roster. Ehlinger was terrific for the team in the preseason and was one of the team's final roster cuts. Despite getting offers from other teams, he chose to stay in Denver on the practice squad. Now, he gets rewarded and there has been talk within the fanbase that Sean Payton could create a package of plays on offense for him that would be similar to what he did with Taysom Hill in New Orleans.

The Broncos will also elevate both linebacker Levelle Bailey and fullback Adam Prentice for Sunday's game against the Tennessee Titans. Neither of these moves is a surprise as the Broncos needed more depth at inside linebacker with Dre Greenlaw out and the team will likely use Prentice each week until Nate Adkins is healthy and ready to take the field.
