Denver Broncos get big news on the tight end front ahead of Week 2 image

The Denver Broncos looked like they could have a major problem at the tight end position ahead of their Week 2 game against the Indianapolis Colts, but the team got some encouraging news on Thursday.

After leaving the season opener with a calf injury, Evan Engram practiced on Thursday for the second day in a row and now appears to be trending towards playing on Sunday. It was initially feared he could miss multiple games, but it seems he won't miss any.

The injury for Engram seems to be more of a bruise to his calf rather than a strain, which would have sidelined him for a bit. The Broncos will hope that he can improve upon the three catches for 21 yards he posted last week against the Titans.

But in addition to Engram, Nate Adkins was also a limited participant in practice.

Adkins has been dealing with an ankle injury since the preseason, but the Broncos didn't even consider not having him on the 53-man roster. The team knew he'd be back shortly into the season, and he could be on the field as soon as Week 3 against the Los Angeles Chargers.

The Broncos were looking at the prospect of going into this Sunday's game in Indianapolis with only Adam Trautman and Lucas Krull at the tight end position. They then would have had to consider elevating either Caleb Lohner or Patrick Murtagh from the practice squad to the gameday roster.

With Engram likely playing this week and Adkins potentially back in Week 3, the tight end position could go from a weakness to a strength quickly for this team.
