The Denver Broncos have a pretty crowded running back depth chart, but that didn't stop them from working out a special kind of free agent RB on Tuesday.
According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, the Broncos worked out Deuce Vaughn, recently released by the Dallas Cowboys.
Vaughn is significant because of how he aligns with what current Broncos coach Sean Payton loved in New Orleans: his diminutive running back Darren Sproles.
When Vaughn entered the league, that was his comparison, based in large part on his small stature. Deuce, full name Christopher Vaughn II, is just 5-foot-6 and 176 pounds.

He came into the NFL in 2023 as a sixth-round pick by the Cowboys after starring at Kansas State.
But in two seasons, Vaughn played in just 14 games.
For Dallas, Vaughn had 40 rushes for 110 yards (2.8 ypc) and 10 catches for 58 yards.
Essentially, it didn't look like he could make his size work at the NFL level.

That's not to say Payton couldn't unlock it, though. He turned Sproles into one of the league's most exciting running backs.
But Sproles could also be one of one. Just because Vaughn is small doesn't mean he has the entire skillset Sproles had.
Regardless, the Broncos haven't been reported to sign Vaughn yet. Maybe they still will, but at the moment, Vaughn remains a free agent.
He'll likely get a chance somewhere, but whether or not that ends up being Denver remains to be seen.
