Broncos legend discusses desire to return to team, but that ship has sailed image

The Denver Broncos are one of eight teams still vying for the Super Bowl this year and that is what the team is focused on. Of course, as soon as the season ends, whenever that is, that focus will shift to what the roster will look like next season.

Von Miller, arguably the best defensive player in team history, has already confirmed that he intends to play again next season, if for no other reason than to pass former teammate DeMarcus Ware on the league's all-time sacks list. But now, he is stating that he would love to come back to Denver, and he's quite serious.

"Y'all make room for me over there with the Denver Broncos. I would love to be in that linebacker room and give Nik Bonitto all the knowledge that I got, everything that I got, for him to be the best version of himself.... I would love to be a Denver Bronco next season and be in that linebacker room with him, and Jonathon Cooper, and contribute in any that I can to improve those guys. Any of the knowledge that I have, I will give to you. The same way DeMarcus did for me, Elvis Dumervil did for me, Shaun Phillips did for me. I would love to do that for those young guys with the Denver Broncos", said Miller on his Free Range podcast.

Miller has discussed returning to the Broncos before and he has made it clear that he will always root for the team. In fact, he recently predicted that the Broncos would beat another of his former teams, the Buffalo Bills, this weekend in the playoffs.

The Broncos traded Miller to the Los Angeles Rams ahead of the trading deadline during the 2021 season. He went on to help them win the Super Bowl that year. Since then, he has played for the Bills and, most recently, the Washington Commanders

He signed a one-year contract with the Commanders this offseason and will be an unrestricted free agent. He will be 37 years old and his best days are way behind him. However, he can likely still contribute to a team as an on-field coach and situational pass-rusher, which he indicates he would love to be in Denver.

Miller would be a great mentor for guys like Nik Bonitto, Jonathon Cooper and Jonah Elliss. But the Broncos have had multiple chances to bring Miller back into the fold and it's never been something the team has seemed interested in. The older he gets, the less interested they will be.

It would be terrific for Miller to sign a one-day contract and then officially retire as a member of the Broncos. He will likely be a first-ballot induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, but the idea of him ever putting on the No. 58 jersey and suiting up for the Broncos seems to be quite far-fetched at this point.
