The Denver Broncos added four more sacks to their 2025 season total on Sunday, bringing their total of the year to 68. But the team came into the game needing nine sacks to break the all-time record for a team.
At one point this season, the Broncos were on pace to shatter the all-time mark, set by the 1984 Chicago Bears. But after going a bit quiet in the latter stages of the season, they weren't able to get there. Still, 68 is the most in team history and one of the best marks in league history.
Only four teams in history had more than this year's Broncos, who will take that defensive pressure into the playoffs as the AFC's No. 1 seed.
After going three games without a sack, Nik Bonitto registered 1.5 sacks against the Chargers on Sunday to finish with 14 on the season. It would have been nice to see the Broncos break the record, but they are going to be happy about being the AFC's No. 1 seed above all else.
Most team sacks in NFL history
| Year | Team | Total Sacks |
| 1984 | Chicago Bears | 72 |
| 1989 | Minnesota Vikings | 71 |
| 2022 | Philadelphia Eagles | 70 |
| 1987 | Chicago Bears | 70 |
| 2025 | Denver Broncos | 68 |
| 1985 | New York Giants | 68 |
Counting the 63 sacks the team registered last season, they have 131 sacks across the last two years, which is an astonishing number. That is one of the biggest reasons why defensive coordinator Vance Joseph is expected to be considered for several coaching vacancies this offseason.
The Broncos will look to bring their pass-rush attack into the playoffs, as it may be the biggest weapon the team has to reach this year's Super Bowl. The Broncos had eight different players with at least four sacks this season.

For what it's worth, none of the teams that had more total sacks than the Broncos did this season won the Super Bowl. The Broncos will look to change that after clinching home-field advantage through the playoffs.
