Broncos expected to target Chris Olave after Bo Nix’s historic game sparks offensive push image

Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix made NFL history in Sunday’s win over the New York Giants, becoming the first player ever to record two passing touchdowns and two rushing touchdowns in the fourth quarter.

The rookie’s performance has fueled optimism in Denver as the team looks to add another offensive weapon ahead of the trade deadline.

With Nix playing beyond expectations and the Broncos sitting at 5-2, the front office is reportedly exploring ways to strengthen the receiving corps, with New Orleans Saints wideout Chris Olave emerging as a top target.

As the Broncos prepare for upcoming matchups against the Dallas Cowboys and Houston Texans, the organization is evaluating whether an aggressive move could help sustain its playoff push and enhance Nix’s development in his second season at the helm.

Broncos exploring WR trade options as Nix continues to shine

Bo Nix’s breakout game has sparked both excitement and urgency inside the Broncos’ building. After practice on Wednesday, Nix reflected on his record-setting performance, keeping his focus grounded.

“That’s pretty cool,” he said. “When you’re in the league like this and you’re playing with a bunch of professionals, when you’re the first to do something, it’s pretty cool. But at the same time, there are a lot of guys who have been first to do a lot of things… All that matters is we scored enough points to win the game.”

Nix credited his teammates for the comeback win.

“Our receivers and skill players battled their tail off there down the stretch,” he said. “Our offensive line did a heck of a job protecting as the game went on. We just found ways to get in the end zone.”

Through seven games, Nix has completed 62.5 percent of his passes for 1,556 yards, 11 touchdowns, and four interceptions. Courtland Sutton, the team’s only proven wide receiver, has shouldered much of the workload.

CBS Sports’ Jonathan Jones recently reported that Denver “could be the top team looking for wideouts,” noting that the franchise holds all of its draft picks through the fifth round and added an extra fourth-rounder from New Orleans in the preseason.

Jones identified Saints receiver Chris Olave as a potential trade fit. The former first-round pick has 44 receptions for 440 yards and three touchdowns this season.

He remains under contract through 2026, with the Saints exercising his $15.5 million fifth-year option. A possible trade scenario would send Denver’s 2026 second-round and fourth-round picks to New Orleans in exchange for Olave.

The Broncos have $5.2 million in cap space and could absorb Olave’s $6.1 million hit this season. Head coach Sean Payton’s group ranks 17th in scoring offense and 15th in passing yards.

Adding a dynamic receiver like Olave could provide Nix the support he needs as Denver looks to sustain its resurgence and end the longest playoff drought in franchise history.
