Why Malik Davis, Hunter Luepke are running the ball for Cowboys, not Javonte Williams image

The Dallas Cowboys opened the scoring on Sunday night with a Javonte Williams touchdown run.

But then after that, Williams was out of the game.

Instead, Dallas was giving carries to backup running back Malik Davis and to fullback Hunter Luepke.

Why are Cowboys giving runs to Malik Davis, Hunter Luepke?

They're in the game because Williams is hurt.

After his touchdown, he went to the blue medical tent. He was diagnosed with a shoulder injury, and ruled questionable to return.

Jaydon Blue isn't available. He's a healthy scratch again.

That leaves Davis, a bit of a journeyman, and the fullback Luepke (who was a standout halfback at the FCS level in college).

It's certainly not ideal for Dallas.

The Cowboys need to win out to have any chance to get to the playoffs.

And here, they may have to do it with a less than ideal RB situation.
