Why Dak Prescott is playing for Cowboys on Christmas despite playoff elimination image

The Dallas Cowboys get a marquee slot on the NFL calendar, kicking off the three-game Christmas Day slate with a matchup against the Washington Commanders.

It's not as key as it could've been, though, with both teams already eliminated from the playoffs.

That doesn't mean the Thursday game in Week 17 will be devoid of talent, though.

Dak Prescott and his talented WRs, CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens, are planning to suit up even while being eliminated.

Why is Dak Prescott still playing for Cowboys?

Dak doesn't want to sit out on Christmas.

He emphasized that being on the road makes it even less likely he'd think about not playing.

"Particularly right now, going into this game, getting a chance to play on Christmas day, first time and also just the fact of being away from my family," Prescott told reporters, via ESPN. "I'm not trying to be away from my family if I'm not going to get to play this game and get to do something I love at a high level [and] finish a good individual season, I guess you could say, off strong... Fifteen games under the belt, I want to make it 17."

Prescott's backup is Joe Milton, who may see some work if a game gets out of hand or if there is any bump or bruise taken at all by Dak.

But in the meantime, he's out there trying to do his thing. That's a commendable way to approach the profession.
