The Dallas Cowboys desperately needed George Pickens to step up in Week 4 with CeeDee Lamb sidelined with an ankle injury and Pickens did just that.

Pickens had some hugely important catches in the 40-40 tie with the Green Bay Packers and finished with eight catches for 134 yards and two scores in all.

Known for his volatile behavior, Pickens hasn't had that kind of issue thus far in Dallas, although it's still very early in the process and things can turn quickly.

The Cowboys will eventually have to decide what to do with Pickens as he prepares to hit free agency in 2026. And, as talented as Pickens is, extending him is risky because of his past behavior issues and the fact that Lamb is already making a boatload of money.

However, Jones, who was very complimentary of how Pickens has been so far, hinted Dallas could end up extending the former second-round pick.

"He's an exemplary teammate. He's exemplary in his work preparation. You can see the results of that out there Sunday," Jones said of Pickens on 105.3 The Fan on Tuesday.

“I’m proud to tell you that we’ve got some outstanding structure in our cap space that will allow us to do a lot of things that I didn’t think (we could) at this time last year. … We got it. We paid a price for it. … We can do it now," Jones said when asked about a possible Pickens extension.

Of course, Jones is referencing the fact that the Cowboys traded Micah Parsons to the Packers instead of giving him the massive, record-breaking extension he eventually got in Green Bay.

That has no doubt opened new doors for the Cowboys when it comes to allocating funds elsewhere, even though it comes at the painful price of losing a generational talent like Parsons.

All that said, the Cowboys should not do anything this early.

There is still a long way to go in this season and ample time for Pickens to go back to his old ways, which would almost certainly turn the Cowboys off from giving him an extension.
