The seat of Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus continues to get hotter and hotter.

After Cowboys owner Jerry Jones made it clear that Eberflus' job isn't safe after the Week 15 loss to the Minnesota Vikings, Jones made more comments on Tuesday about the Cowboys' defense that once again show he is not happy with the embattled defensive coordinator.

During his usual guest appearance on 105.3 The Fan, Jones was highly critical of the Cowboys' defensive game plan against the Vikings and disagreed with the way the team attacked the matchup against quarterback J.J. McCarthy.

“We let their quarterback have a big day on us,” he said, per Jon Machota of The Athletic. “That wasn’t the plan. We could have used more pressure, without question, at different times. The result was that we let him make some pretty significant plays out there, plus, he played pretty well. It seems like we’re always saying that about these (opposing) quarterbacks. Some of them hadn’t played as well, but when they play us, they play better. I think that’s telling, too.”

McCarthy has been struggling all season long, but he managed to have arguably his best game of the season against Dallas, which was yet another stain on Eberflus' resume with the Cowboys.

Jones even went as far as to blame the defense for the rough spot the Cowboys are in entering Week 16, when they will be in position to be eliminated from playoff contention with a loss or a Philadelphia Eagles win.

“Candidly, just to be very up front about it, I think if we could have gotten this defense in better shape earlier that we could be sitting here with the kind of wins that would’ve not had us in this tight spot," Jones admitted.

It's absolutely logical to blame this disappointing season on the defense. After all, the Cowboys sport one of the league's elite offenses, so that side of the ball is not the problem here.

Based on everything Jones has said in the past few days, it's becoming less and less likely that Eberflus returns in 2026, and most Cowboys fans wouldn't have any issue with that.
