Jake Ferguson injury update leaves Cowboys TE's Week 15 status in serious doubt image

It appears the Dallas Cowboys are in danger of not having their starting tight end, Jake Ferguson, in Week 15.

According to the Cowboys' Thursday injury report, Ferguson did not practice, which amounts to a downgrade for the veteran after he was limited on Wednesday.

Unless this was a planned rest day for Ferguson, who is dealing with a calf injury, the step back in participation puts him on track to sit out this Sunday.

The next update will come on Friday, when the Cowboys release their final injury report. However, head coach Brian Schottenheimer could also give an update on Ferguson beforehand.

Based on the way things are going, Ferguson will probably be listed as questionable, at best, but we wouldn't be surprised to see him ruled out.

Not having Ferguson would be a tough blow for the Cowboys and fantasy football owners everywhere.

Ferguson ranks third on the team in receiving yards entering Week 15 and he has been an elite red-zone target with seven touchdowns, which ranks second among Cowboys pass-catchers and tied for second among all NFL tight ends.

That production has also made Ferguson an elite fantasy football option, with the veteran ranking as TE2 overall this season, trailing only the Arizona Cardinals' superstar tight end, Trey McBride.

Dallas is facing a must-win situation every week from here on out thanks to their 11% chance to make the playoffs. They desperately need Ferguson out there on Sunday.

If Ferguson can't play, the Cowboys will need more out of Luke Schoonmaker and Brevyn Spann-Ford. Schoonmaker will likely be the starter in that scenario, although we wouldn't expect much in the way of production from him.
