The Dallas Cowboys picked up their first win of the season in dramatic fashion, but head coach Brian Schottenheimer’s postgame focus quickly shifted from football to family.
Victory came on Sunday
Just a day after his team’s 40-37 overtime victory against the New York Giants, Schottenheimer revealed that his 82-year-old mother, Pat, is set to undergo surgery this Friday after breaking her arm in a recent fall.
The longtime coach asked for prayers as his family rallies around her. “She couldn’t be at the game to see my first win as a head coach,” Schottenheimer shared, noting how much the moment meant to both of them.

Familiar name in the NFL
Pat is no stranger to football’s spotlight. She was by the side of legendary NFL coach Marty Schottenheimer, Brian’s father, until his passing in 2021. Now, her son is carrying on the family’s coaching legacy while balancing the weight of this personal challenge.
The Cowboys will be on the road against the Chicago Bears this weekend, and while Schottenheimer will be focused on football, his thoughts will be with his mother as she recovers from surgery.
