TL;DR
- Malik Davis scored a crucial 43-yard touchdown in the Cowboys' 31-28 victory over the Chiefs.
- Davis stepped into the backup running back role, impressing with his performance and versatility.
- Coach Schottenheimer highlighted Davis's dedication and strong play, especially on special teams.
- Davis's recent form makes him a key player, impacting Jaydon Blue's inactive status.
Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb, and George Pickens will receive all the offensive praise following the Dallas Cowboys's 31-28 victory against the Kansas City Chiefs.
However, it's crucial to acknowledge that this victory wouldn't have occurred without an individual, perhaps unfamiliar to many, who executed significant plays.
Malik Davis, a running back, scored a significant 43-yard touchdown against the Chiefs, extending his strong performance after stepping into the backup position previously held by Rookie Jaydon Blue.
Following the game, head coach Brian Schottenheimer specifically wanted to highlight Malik, particularly considering his path to reach this point.
“I want to talk about Malik Davis for a second,” Schottenheimer said. “Here's a guy that just does everything right. Here's a guy that gets cut, and he goes home to Tampa, then we bring him back for training camp because we're down bodies. All he's done is just do everything right. He runs the touchdown in which is great, and then he runs down on the next play I think, and makes the tackle on special teams.
I want young people to aspire to that. I'm thrilled for him, as he's demonstrating he's exactly where he should be.

Jaydon Blue has competition
Davis' form in the last two weeks is why Jaydon Blue has been a healthy scratch.
Last week, Davis gained 24 yards, with 21 of those on a single run, and then he had 47 yards against the Chiefs, 43 of which were on the touchdown run, demonstrating his value as an offensive player.
However, it's known that Schottenheimer prefers his players to be versatile across multiple positions, and Blue's performance on special teams isn't as strong as Davis's.
And that might be the key reason why Davis suits up, and Blue is inactive.
Considering recent performance, it'll require a significant shift for The Cowboys to replace Davis with Blue.
Particularly as Davis enters this contest following a game where he scored a 43-yard touchdown against the reigning AFC champions.
