Cowboys' Tyler Smith gets big contract update after DaRon Bland deal image

The Dallas Cowboys are staying busy.

They've already traded away Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers and now have signed DaRon Bland to a $92 million contract extension, with both big moves happening in the final week of August.

And now, it sounds like they're on to their next order of business.

According to ESPN's Todd Archer, the Cowboys have begun negotiating on a contract extension with Pro Bowl offensive lineman Tyler Smith.

"Cowboys have had talks with Pro Bowl guard Tyler Smith as well," Archer wrote on X. "He is signed through next year with his fifth-year option."

Dallas seems to be using the money it didn't spend on Parsons to try and keep much of the rest of the band around.

Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer spoke about Smith on Sunday soon after the Bland deal was signed, telling reporters at a press conference that "hopefully" Smith is "the next one we can get done."

The 6-foot-6, 332-pound Smith was the No. 24 overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft by the Cowboys out of Tulsa.

He has appeared in 47 games over three seasons for Dallas, all starts. Smith has been a Pro Bowl selection in both 2023 and 2024.

Amusingly, Smith caught a pass last season, for 0 yards.

Still just 24 years old, Smith can be an anchor of the Dallas offensive line for years to come.

There's still plenty of time to get a contract done, but Cowboys fans would likely prefer this deal get done a little sooner rather than a little later. They've had enough fun with all the waiting around for the contracts (or non-contracts) of CeeDee Lamb, Dak Prescott and Parsons.
