Cowboys' Trevon Diggs in trouble after NFL Draft leaves shocking contract decision in play image

Trevon Diggs is one of the most well-known cornerbacks in football.

The Dallas Cowboys may be lined up to make a shocking choice with him, though, potentially as soon as the end of this season.

Diggs has four years remaining on a $97 million extension, but with a key added factor: There is no guaranteed money beyond 2025.

USA Today predicts that Diggs is in jeopardy of losing his spot with the Cowboys.

"He’s missed 21 games over the past two seasons and has long had a reputation for making big plays … but also surrendering them," USA Today writes. "And with highly capable CB Shavon Revel Jr. arriving in the third round – a torn ACL last year cost him a much earlier draft call – and the Cowboys about to issue another mega contract to DE Micah Parsons, well, worth wondering how much longer they can afford Diggs and/or fellow CB DaRon Bland, who could be a free agent next year."

Cornerback is an extremely important position in the modern NFL.

Diggs and Bland are both still strong players, but if they aren't available, that makes it tougher to justify paying them huge money.

The 2025 season could go a long way toward determining the final Diggs outcome.

If he stays healthy and makes plays all year, he'll be a lot tougher to get rid of him.

If he misses 5-10 games and shows a few signs of being past his peak after all the injuries, Diggs might be signing his ticket out of town.

It's not something Cowboys fans have though about too much yet, but it's definitely something to keep an eye on.
