The Dallas Cowboys want to reunite with running back Javonte Williams after this season, as owner and general manager Jerry Jones has made that clear.

Williams, who only made $3 million this season, has been great for Dallas, with the veteran running back posting career-highs with 1,201 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns.

But the Cowboys are going to have limited funds to work with this offseason, with Over The Cap projecting Dallas to be a whopping $45.5 million over the cap.

Knowing that, it's very possible Williams leaves for a team that can offer him more and the Cowboys once again go into the bargain bin for a replacement.

Bleacher Report's Alex Kay envisions that exact scenario unfolding.

He sees Williams signing with the New York Jets in free agency and the Cowboys pivoting to Denver Broncos running back J.K. Dobbins, who is projected to sign a one-year, $5 million contract.

"The New York Jets make plenty of sense as a landing spot for the five-year veteran. Gang Green will likely be in the market for a Breece Hall replacement this spring and could replicate a good chunk of their star's production at a cheaper cost via Williams," Kay wrote of the Jets signing Williams.

"Dobbins will be well worth rolling the dice on for a cash-strapped club like the Dallas Cowboys," Kay said of a Dobbins signing for the Cowboys. "The team could be priced out of retaining Javonte Williams and will want to make up that lost production by coming to terms on a cheap, incentive-laden deal with Dobbins."

While it's possible the Jets could retain Hall, doing so will be quite expensive and the Jets could look for a cheaper alternative, something Williams would be.

It's also very possible Hall simply won't want to return to New York after all he losing he has experienced there.

Dobbins' career has been plagued by injuries, but as he showed once again in 2025, when he's on the field, the veteran is a difference-maker.

Dobbins, who replaced Williams in Denver and was a total steal at just $2.06 million, tallied 772 rushing yards and four touchdowns in 10 games while averaging an impressive five yards per carry for the Broncos this season.

Ideally, if the Cowboys take this route and sign Dobbins, they make him part of a two-man backfield with a younger rusher.

We wouldn't mind the Cowboys springing for Jeremiyah Love or another rookie rusher and pairing him with Dobbins in Year 1.
