The Dallas Cowboys made a major roster move ahead of their Week 16 matchup with the Los Angeles Commanders.

The Cowboys officially activated cornerback Trevon Diggs off injured reserve on Saturday, clearing the way for him to see the field in the game against the Chargers. In order to make room for Diggs on the active roster, Dallas placed fellow cornerback DaRon Bland on the IR list. Bland will miss the rest of the season due to foot surgery.

Diggs hasn’t played since Dallas’ 30-27 loss to the Carolina Panthers on Oct. 12. He suffered a concussion in an off-field incident after that game and was placed on IR on Oct. 25 due to a right knee issue.

There was some speculation that Diggs would remain sidelined for the rest of the season, but now that he’s been activated off IR he’ll be able to play in Dallas’ final three regular season games.

Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer was impressed with what he saw from Diggs on the practice field this week.

"I'll say this, when you look at Trevon this week, what I've loved the most about him is he's having fun playing football," Schottenheimer said. "He's smiling, running around, but he's, to his credit, he's having a really good week."

Now that he’s activated, Diggs would theoretically be available for the Cowboys should they make the playoffs. However, to say that’s a longshot would be an understatement.

The only possible way for the Cowboys to qualify for postseason play would be if they won all three of their remaining games and the Philadelphia Eagles lost all three of their remaining games. At that point, the Cowboys would have the slightly better record – 9-7-1 compared to 9-8 – and would win the NFC East as a result.

While possible, Cowboys fans shouldn’t hold their breath for that happening, as that full sequence of events has a less than one percent chance of actually unfolding.
