The best kicker in the NFL has received some deserved recognition.

Dallas Cowboys star Brandon Aubrey was named the NFC Special Teams Player of the Month for September, the league announced.

It was about as simple a choice as could be.

Aubrey went 9-for-9 on field goals in September. That included the impressive 64-yarder at the end of regulation to force overtime against the New York Giants in Week 2. Aubrey, naturally, went on to win that game with another field goal.

Beat reporter Nick Harris also shared that when the Cowboys played the Green Bay Packers in Week 4, Aubrey had three landing zone kickoffs that made it to the end zone for touchbacks. That means they landed between the 20 and the goal line, then got to the end zone before someone picked them up. Those kicks come out just to the 20-yard line, but they're very hard to pull off. Aubrey can even do that.

It's safe to expect there are more awards in Aubrey's future.

He has gone from a guy who was a first-round MLS draft pick as a central defender to someone who is the unquestioned best football kicker on the planet.

He had to put the work in, and he had to prove himself in a secondary professional league.

But once the Cowboys gave him a chance, it was clear Aubrey was going to stick around. There's no one else quite like him.

And while a player of the month award doesn't mean a whole lot, it's nice affirmation for a job well done. Aubrey will surely keep up the great work.
