The Dallas Cowboys saw star wide receiver CeeDee Lamb exit the Week 14 contest against the Detroit Lions early due to a concussion.

Lamb sustained the concussion in the second quarter of the game while going up to make a catch in the end zone. Lamb hit the ground hard after failing to reel in the pass and it was immediately clear he was concussed before he was quickly ruled out and taken to the locker room.

On Friday, head coach Brian Schottenheimer revealed that Lamb "had a good day" in his first full day in the concussion protocol and believes the extra days between the Week 14 and 15 contests could help him be ready in time for the game against the Minnesota Vikings.

“He had a good day, but he has to go through all the checks and balances of all that stuff,” Schottenheimer said of Lamb, according to ESPN's Todd Archer. “I do think the extra couple of days should hopefully help him.”

Lamb's concussion was scary, as he had a "fencing response," something we have seen with Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, who missed two games in 2022 after having the same response to a concussion.

Respected neuroscientist and former WWE superstar, Dr. Chris Nowinski, did a full and scary breakdown of the clip of Lamb getting hurt.

"CeeDee Lamb suffered an ugly brain injury on this play. Note Tua-like fingers, an unsettling version of the fencing response which reveals injury to brainstem nuclei. Sad fact: brainstem damage can increase the risk of mental health & psychiatric disorders," Nowinski wrote on X.

Just a terrifying review from Nowinski and we can only hope Lamb won't have any lingering issues moving forward.

CeeDee Lamb return timeline

As far as his Week 15 status is concerned, such a severe concussion could lead to Lamb missing at least one game, although that hasn't been confirmed yet.

As we mentioned with Tagovailoa, he missed a total of two games back in 2022 when he displayed that "fencing response" to his concussion in a game, so that's certainly something to keep in mind.

One thing working in Lamb's and the Cowboys' favor is they now have a mini-bye after the loss to Detroit, so that increases his chances of not missing a game.

We'll know more on Wednesday, when the Cowboys release their first Week 15 injury report.

Any semblance of participation from Lamb would be a clear sign of progress in the protocol and would give him a chance to play.
