TL;DR

  • Dallas Cowboys achieved a 24-21 comeback win against the Philadelphia Eagles after trailing 21-0.
  • The Cowboys' offense dominated in the second half, while their defense shut out the Eagles.
  • This victory, tied for the biggest comeback in franchise history, was against a strong Eagles defense.
  • Despite the win, the Cowboys' 5-5-1 record still requires them to win upcoming games to reach playoffs.

The Dallas Cowboys' 24-21 win over the Philadelphia Eagles was a classic tale of two halves.

The initial situation was quite embarrassing until the Cowboys managed to score a touchdown near the end of the second quarter, narrowing the deficit from 21-0 to 21-7.

Dallas truly came alive after halftime, with Dak Prescott and the offense dominating the Eagles' defense in an unprecedented fashion this season, while the defense stifled Philadelphia's offense, preventing them from scoring any points in the latter half.

Dallas played nearly flawless football for one half, and according to NFL.com's Eric Edholm, their performance against the Eagles' defense was quite remarkable.

"The Cowboys spent the first half repeatedly shooting themselves in the feet, digging a 21-0 hole for themselves in the process," Edholm wrote. "But they peeled themselves off the turf and started chipping away at the Eagles and starting a rollicking comeback -- tied for the biggest in franchise history -- and a stunning win over the Eagles. That the comeback came against a defense the caliber of the Eagles was even more impressive."

The Cowboys are compelled to re-enter season-saving mode when facing the Chiefs.

While the Dallas victory against the Eagles was impressive, Cowboys fans shouldn't get too comfortable, as their 5-5-1 record still leaves them far from playoff contention.

Securing a victory against the Chiefs, who are also struggling, would be beneficial, but with the Detroit Lions, Minnesota Vikings, and Los Angeles Chargers coming up, this Cowboys team faces a challenging path to the postseason.

But it starts with a single game.

After defeating the Eagles, they face another challenge: concluding Kansas City's season at&T Stadium this Thanksgiving.
